I am an incoming fourth-year student majoring in Biological Sciences with a minor in Global Health and am pursuing a premedical track. Growing up on Guam shaped my interest in how structural factors influence access to care and health outcomes, and continues to guide where I choose to direct my work. My clinical experience in Guam’s healthcare system exposed me to the constraints of care delivery, while my research in cancer biology and molecular epidemiology has strengthened my interest in using data to better understand health disparities. I currently conduct molecular epidemiology research on HIV transmission among vulnerable populations, using genomic and epidemiologic data to better understand patterns of disease. I am particularly interested in addressing gaps in health data for underserved populations, recognizing that representative data are essential for identifying disparities, informing policy, and advancing health equity. I aspire to become a physician-scientist who generates evidence to address gaps in health data and inform policies that improve health equity for underserved communities.
