Aubri Perez

I was born and raised in Guam, and I am a proud University of Guam alumna. My upbringing as part of our island’s community ultimately shaped my journey to medicine and passion towards caring for the underserved. My experiences serving with the Guam Homeless Coalition, volunteering at Guam Memorial Hospital, and conducting research on cardiometabolic health among Pacific Islander families during my gap years led to a desire to more deeply understand the multilevel barriers to care affecting our community. I later obtained my MPH in Epidemiology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia where my research was focused on racial disparities in access to kidney transplantation. As a medical student at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine in Michigan, I have been involved in pipeline and mentorship programs aimed towards the diverse communities of metro Detroit, increasing awareness of LGBTQ+ health disparities as part of the Medical Student Pride Alliance, and promoting local advocacy efforts as student leadership in the Michigan State Medical Society. I will be starting Internal Medicine residency as part of the inaugural Health Equity track at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas with hopes of pursuing fellowship in pulmonary or nephrology critical care.
